Goa… anytime

Goa undoubtedly is pretty much everyone’s favorite destination. Whether you’ve been to Goa or not, Calangute, Baga, Condolim, Palolem beaches, and add a few more names if you like, are no less than household names when you just mention Goa.

Family vacation in Goa during your Summer or Diwali holidays at school, and I bet you have visited the beaches 🙂

Consider trying the less crowded options and you’ll know what bliss feels like. Goa is beautiful, and it outdoes itself when you visit the most uncommon beaches.

We started our journey from Pune around 06:30 AM. Pune – Goa is roughly 450 KM and drive is between 8-9 hours.

Stay @ Bogmalo beach

I am choosing to mention this beach because we stayed at a resort on this beach. Resort was old but it was right at the beach. Bogmalo is a public beach and gets pretty crowded especially during evenings.

This Bogmalo beach photo is taken from the balcony of our room at about 7 AM on an April weekend morning.

moonlight

Its interesting how pleasant the mornings are, even in summer. If you are a morning person you’d know how amazing the sea looks in moonlight before dawn.

This photo was taken at 5:30 AM in the morning 🙂 Just half an hour later we started for Agonda beach.

Breakfast @ Agonda beach

Day 2. The distance from Bogmalo beach to Agonda beach is 64 KM. By road, it takes you less than two hours to reach here. This beach serves as a turtle nesting site, but that is sometime after monsoon I believe. We were here in April.  We left for Agonda beach at 6 AM in the morning hoping for a nice cool breeze along the way. And it was more than welcoming.

That’s our photographer friend at the Agonda beach around 7:30 AM in the morning.

This beach is quiet and extremely clean. It’s perfect for long beach walks. We were lucky enough to have the weather our side even on the last weekend of April. We had delicious breakfast in a restaurant that was a part of the resort here while planning a visit to the butterfly beach.

Butterfly beach

The butterfly beach is one major destination for dolphin sighting. There is a 2 KM drive from Agonda beach that takes you to a ferry port. You can rent a boat to get you to the Butterfly beach, wait for you, and get you back. The cost per person depends completely on the season and your ability to negotiate 🙂

We spent about INR/- 500 per person, for a decent boat and two cooperative boatmen. While cruising towards Butterfly beach, to your left, you can see Palolem beach at a distance. Butterfly beach is a reasonably small beach with a few rocks and an amazing view.  So don’t expect any restaurant, washrooms, place to change, and so on.

You will find enough birds and butterflies here. And if you’re lucky, you might see dolphins and crabs too.

There is a forest trek available to get to this beach, but we recommend that you take the boat. It is much more convenient and worthwhile.

Day 3. This is one place where you feel scared as you follow the GPS. We just drove and drove and came to a halt that didn’t seem to lead anyone, anywhere 😀 .  We parked our car at a place and followed a few two wheeler tracks.

A few more steps and an amazing view awaited us. You realize that you are at sort of a hilltop, from where you start descending towards the beach.

Serene, beautiful, and deserted (the way we love it).

There’s a place where we had lunch here; food was alright, so I am choosing not to mention the name of the place.
